The existing 'T' junction of Bentley Avenue and Chartwell Avenue provided poor pedestrian facilities and had an adverse reported crash record.  TES investigated several different options for upgrading the junction, including undertaking traffic modelling for a raised island upgrade, roundabout and signals, with the former two options preferred. 

 

TES completed a Safe System Assessment of three alternative options for improving safety at the junction, and the roundabout option was considered most closely aligned with Safe System principles of design.

The roundabout design was approved during consultation, TES prepared construction plans and provided on-going construction supervision. Works were completed in July 2020. The final cost of construction was approximately 900k.

 

Reported crashes at the junction have reduced substantially since the roundabout was constructed.
