RURAL ROAD BEND TREATMENTS
2019
Crash statistics were reviewed at 14 rural road bend sites in Auckland. Crash patterns were established, and remedial measures were identified and designed in alignment with Safe Systems principles of design. Each site included reported death and/or serious injury crashes.
The crash remedial works involved significant traffic and road engineering works, including signs, road-marking, high-friction surfacing, road widening, shape correction, storm water control, reseals, and pavement rehabilitation.
Innovative and cost effective street lighting solutions were proposed as a trial at sites that had an identified crash pattern at night.
The total estimated construction cost for the works was over $NZ 3 million.
