Every year, hundreds of crashes occur at intersections involving drivers who failed to notice the priority-controlled intersection and drive through them at open road speeds without stopping.

Such crashes can have high severity and can even result in fatalities. To counter this problem a trial of solar powered advanced ‘stop’ warning signs was conducted, with signs being activated by radar, resulting in a strobe like high intensity LED alternating between two sites.

Similar system trials conducted in the UK and Sweden reduced crashes by 30-40%.
