SUSTAINABILITY

TES IS NET CARBON ZERO!

As global emissions continue to rise, leading to more extreme events worldwide, businesses must act swiftly and decisively. We have less than a decade to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change and significantly reduce our emissions.

Traffic Engineering Solutions Limited (TES) takes pride in being a certified net carbon zero organization. We are dedicated to managing and reducing emissions and follow the ISO 14064-1:2018 standard and are audited by Toitū. We measure and report our operation-related emissions publicly, striving to discover effective reduction methods continually. Through this work, we identify ways we can support our business, staff, sub-contractors and clients in making better daily decisions for climate action.

SUSTAINABILITY IS OUR FUTURE

We pledge to cut our emissions in half by 2030. As transport designers, we understand that daily transportation methods profoundly affect our environment and community. Thus, we collaborate to provide safe, innovative, and sustainable transport solutions for clients and commuters alike. TES directors are committed to guiding our entire business towards becoming a sustainable carbon zero enterprise while finding further ways to shrink our carbon footprint.

Several sustainable policies have already been adopted by TES, such as gradually electrifying our vehicle fleet, transitioning to a paperless office through increased use of laptops and iPads, offering subsidies for staff to use public transport, and encouraging eco-friendly commuting with e-scooters or e-bikes. Our dedication to sustainability values is evident in our continuous commitment driven by directors, staff, suppliers, and sub-consultants. By incorporating social, economic, and environmental considerations into core business processes and solutions, we achieve responsible outcomes environmentally and socially.

REPORTING AND SUSTAINABILITY

At the heart of our business lies a strong emphasis on sustainability and modal shift as a key initiative to reduce transport emissions. We have developed three primary strategies to support our commitment; environmental protection by our workforce, carbon footprint reduction, and sustainable consumption.

These policies encompass all company operations and services, encouraging life cycle thinking and innovative approaches to enhance environmental performance. We also understand that sustainability is an evolving concept requiring ongoing growth and development of new ideas.

BUSINESS AND DESIGN

TES specializes in transportation design and promotes modal shifts towards sustainable transport options, such as rail, bus, cycling, and walking. Our largest source of emissions is transportation, and reducing these emissions will lead to improved environmental, social, economic, and cultural outcomes for New Zealand. Our design decisions influence the environmental footprint of projects throughout their lifetime while considering products and materials with lower environmental impacts.

Many of our projects receive funding from the Government's "Climate Emergency Response Fund" (CERF). We have expanded our efforts to design sustainable stormwater solutions to accommodate extreme weather events in the Auckland region.

Our vision at TES is to lead in sustainable business by consistently improving sustainable practices and implementing environmentally-friendly design. We view sustainability as a holistic approach to minimizing consumption and maximizing efficiency without compromising current values or future generations' needs.

COMMITMENT TO CERTIFICATION

In collaboration with Toitū Envirocare, TES has prepared a "Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory and Management Report" for the period ending 31 March 2023 in accordance with ISO 14064-1:2018 and program technical requirements.

TES is dedicated to measuring our carbon output, identifying opportunities for reduction, and offsetting any remaining carbon to achieve net carbon zero or climate-positive certification. We have purchased carbon offsets for our initial reporting period, as audited by the Toitū net carbon zero program that has public disclosure statements.

Strategically, we recognise and are fully committed to Auckland’s vision for improving the resilience and sustainability of the transport system for our tamariki and mokopuna, and promoting supplier diversity and Maori business and outcomes.
