Tactical Urbanism Shared Spaces
Shared spaces are zones where all road users can operate together safely. Iterative design upgrades of shared spaces can significantly improve their operational performance, particularly in relation to safety and amenity for vulnerable road users. Various measures can be implemented retrospectively to reduce traffic speeds and volumes within Shared Spaces, such as:
Lateral shift of the circulation zone, using movable street furniture
Circulation zone side friction, using movable street furniture
Enforcing and monitoring illegal loading and parking
Fully pedestrianizing the shared space, if vehicle driveway accesses are few
